To celebrate 30 years of Stormwater360, we’re proud to share reflections from those who have helped shape our journey.

In this special anniversary testimonial, former team member Troy Brockbank reflects on his time with the business, offering a personal perspective on the people, values, and innovation that have defined Stormwater360’s evolution. From early growth through to industry influence, his words highlight the legacy, leadership, and lasting impact of three decades in stormwater.

Hari huritau nama toru tekau ki a koutou te whānau Stormwater360.

I want to share my sincere congratulations on reaching this significant 30‑year milestone, and to acknowledge in particular the leadership and legacy of Mike and Greg.

I spent a formative part of my career at Stormwater360, joining the team in its earlier years and growing alongside the business as it evolved from a small, driven specialist outfit into a nationally—and increasingly internationally—recognised stormwater technology company. During my time there, I had a front‑row view of the ambition Mike and Greg carried for the company, and, just as importantly, their willingness to support that ambition with technical rigour, genuine investment in people, and a strong commitment to environmental outcomes.

My years at Stormwater360 coincided with a period of rapid innovation. I saw first‑hand the development and introduction of multiple stormwater technologies into the New Zealand market—solutions that were never simply lifted from elsewhere, but carefully adapted, tested, and refined to suit local conditions, materials, and regulatory expectations. These were practical, buildable solutions that lifted both performance and water quality outcomes across urban and infrastructure contexts. In doing so, Stormwater360 helped reshape expectations across the sector about what good stormwater management should look like.

Mike’s leadership stood out to me for its depth of technical understanding and ethical clarity. He had a rare ability to connect cutting‑edge engineering and science with real‑world application, while consistently keeping integrity and long‑term environmental outcomes front of mind. Whether in product development, engagement with councils and regulators, or commercial decision‑making, Mike demonstrated what principled engineering leadership looks like in practice. He led with curiosity, care, and a strong sense of responsibility for the wider impacts of our work on communities and the environment.

Greg brought a complementary strength through his strategic and commercial leadership. His role in scaling the business, building credibility with clients and partners, and expanding Stormwater360’s influence across Aotearoa and offshore was critical to its success. Together, Mike and Greg fostered a culture that valued innovation, trust, and people—a place where engineers were encouraged to take responsibility, grow into leadership, and be supported to do their best work. I personally benefitted from that environment, as did many others who have since gone on to hold senior roles across the water and infrastructure sector.

Thirty years on, Stormwater360’s influence on the stormwater industry is unmistakable. The company has helped lift practice, normalise innovation, and embed a deeper sense of environmental responsibility into everyday engineering decisions. That legacy is a direct reflection of Mike and Greg’s vision, perseverance, and leadership.

As the company looks ahead, the whakataukī "me te wai e rere ana" feels especially fitting. Water has its own currents, its own identify, and its own intelligence—it is not meant to be held still, but to flow, adapt, and find its way forward. That same understanding sits at the heart of Stormwater360’s approach: working with the natural behaviour of water rather than against it, and continually evolving solutions that support the life‑supporting capacity and health of wai. By enabling water to flow well—clean, resilient, and thriving—Stormwater360 can further help ensure it can continue to nourish land, communities, and ecosystems, for generations yet to come.

Me te wai e rere ana - Like flowing water.

Wai ora, Mauri ora ki a tatou!"
