Project Overview:
This new 16-lot residential subdivision in Huntly required an effective stormwater treatment solution to manage runoff from steeply graded roads and driveways. With limited space and challenging site conditions, the system needed to be compact, high-performing, and easy to maintain.
Solution:
Filterra® was chosen due to its high treatment efficiency within a small footprint. The design incorporated both standard and shallow Filterra® units in series, allowing for optimal pollutant removal while fitting into the site’s tight layout.
Runoff from the road is conveyed through vegetated swales, piped under driveways, and into a main swale forebay located in front of the Filterra® units. The vegetated swales not only enhance aesthetics but also act as pre-treatment zones.
Due to boundary constraints, a narrow vegetated swale was created along the rear of the lots, maximising otherwise unusable space for effective conveyance. During peak flows, excess stormwater bypasses through the swale forebay into a manhole fitted with a scruffy dome, ensuring system resilience during high-intensity rainfall.
