There have been many documented studies about the beneficial effects of greenroofs for medical and aged care facilities. Babbage Consultants contacted Stormwater360 to design, supply and install the ‘LiveRoof®’ green roof system at the BUPA aged care facility.
The 150mm deep LiveRoof® installed at the BUPA facility incorporates lightweight ‘LiteRoof’ growing media and ‘sedum’ plants. Sedum plants are from the plant family known as Crassulacean acid metabolism plants or ‘CAM’ plants. CAM plants are water-conserving plants that operate by the plant stomata remain shut during the day to reduce evapotranspiration, but open at night to collect carbon dioxide (CO2). Sedum plants are well known for their capability to exist in dry and arid conditions and are used widely around the world for greenroof applications.
Stormwater360 has developed a custom range of Sedum plants from seed to suit the New Zealand climate and can recommend plant mixes for your site whether it is North or South Island.
A StormFilter™ was installed to treat the impervious surfaces for Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Heavy Metals.
