30 Years of Smarter Stormwater Management with Stormwater360
In 2026, Stormwater360 marks 30 years in stormwater, a milestone shaped by innovation, field experience, and a deep understanding of how stormwater systems perform in the real world.
On 1 August 1996, the first EnviroPod® Filter patent was filed in New Zealand. That moment marked the beginning of a journey focused on improving stormwater outcomes through practical, engineered solutions designed to work within existing infrastructure.
Three decades on, the challenges facing stormwater systems have evolved, but the need for solutions that are durable, scalable, and fit for purpose has never been greater.
Built for Real-World Conditions
From the outset, our work has been grounded in the realities of urban environments. Stormwater infrastructure is complex, often ageing, and rarely designed with modern pollutant loads in mind. Solutions must work within these constraints — not rely on ideal conditions.
Over the past 30 years, our focus has remained consistent:
- Treating stormwater as close to the source as possible
- Designing systems that can be installed and maintained practically
- Supporting long-term performance, not just initial compliance
This approach has shaped the development of technologies, systems, and practices that are now used across a wide range of environments, from city streets and transport corridors to commercial and industrial sites.
Experience Shaped by the Field
Thirty years in stormwater is not defined by a single product or project. It is built through:
- Ongoing design and product refinement
- Observations from real installations over time
- Collaboration with councils, consultants, and contractors
- Independent testing, research, and field validation
Each project has contributed to a deeper understanding of how stormwater systems behave under different conditions, and how design, maintenance, and deployment decisions affect long-term outcomes.
This accumulated experience continues to inform how we approach stormwater challenges today.
Evolving with the Industry
The stormwater sector has changed significantly over the past three decades. Increased urbanisation, higher runoff volumes, plastic and litter pollution, and rising environmental expectations have all influenced how stormwater is managed.
As these pressures have grown, so too has the need for solutions that are:
- Scalable across large catchments
- Adaptable to different site constraints
- Supported by practical maintenance strategies
- Aligned with evolving regulatory and environmental objectives
Our work continues to respond to these challenges, not through a single solution, but through an evolving portfolio informed by experience and collaboration.
Recognising 30 Years — and Looking Ahead
While 30 years is a milestone worth recognising, it is not an endpoint.
Throughout 2026, we will be marking this anniversary by sharing:
- Stories from projects and places that have shaped our journey
- Reflections on lessons learned across three decades of stormwater work
- Insights into how stormwater management continues to evolve
- A look ahead at the challenges and opportunities still to come
This year-long series is about acknowledging where we’ve come from, while keeping our focus firmly on the future.
